It is very simple. A company will make more money by attracting more consumers. Marketing your products and services will make the acquisition of new clients possible. Companies orchestrate press releases, place ads in magazines, post ads on the Web, etc. as part of their marketing efforts. Many companies see benefit in marketing through others’ marketing campaigns.

Affiliate marketing enables you to advertise your products/services through another company. Whether it is a company of the same or different industry, the system allows your products/services to be seen by more potential buyers.

Unfortunately, like any other campaign, the success is contingent on the efficiency of its structure. The following article illustrates points which will deter your company from optimizing the potential involved with the affiliate endeavor. Consider the following points to ensure success.

Competing
Affiliates will sometimes compete with one another. It may seem natural to compete with other entities, especially those of the same industry, but it is not advantageous to compete with your own affiliate.

Think about it. You are investing your own resources to advertise through your affiliate. When you compete, you are trying to run the other company out of business. Running them out of business means lessening their customers, and lessening their customers means less people will see your products/services advertised. It makes better business sense to support your affiliate; supporting them is supporting the advertisement of your goods/services.

Statistics
Any endeavor spawned by your company needs to be assessed through statistical analysis. Looking at the numbers provides you with an idea of how well your money is being used. Most affiliates are only suited with basic business information from their partners. This is not the best method of communication. Consider providing the following:

- Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. statistics with date ranges
- Commission accrued via product/service and how the customer was led to the site
- Daily email updates
- Instant notification of a new affiliate
- Number of returns and all pertinent info
- Affiliate links with traceable IDs, so the affiliate knows what sources are generating sales
- Unique click information
- A list of other top-performing affiliates

Compensation
People are in business to make money. Underneath it all, affiliates enter the partnership to make money. Make sure to organize your marketing budget to make the act of becoming an affiliate a lucrative deal for them.

Creativity
It is not enough to provide banners and text links to your affiliates. Be creative in the process and make the affiliate marketing as diversified as your other attempts at marketing. Have you considered the following:

- Customer testimonials
- Direct email ads
- Pay per click ads
- Newsletter ads
- Product reviews
- Video ads
- Staff interviews

Create a variety of ads in order to assess what will work best on different sites.

Communication
It is important to facilitate regular, informative communication with your affiliate. Your affiliate is as important as your customers because they are equal to an infinite number of potential new customers for your company. Make someone responsible for fostering regular contact with your affiliates.
