...If someone other than you is registering your domain name on your behalf.
Quite often individuals have been taken advantage of by webmasters and domain name resellers, and third party companies when it comes to registering a domain name.
This seems to happen simply because the individual requesting assistance does not understand the process or because that don’t take the time and or are to trusting.
If a webmaster, reseller, third party is registering the domain name on your behalf, insist that you understand who is who and that you receive all pertinent information concerning your domain name.
Things that should be provided by the registering individual or that you should ask for;
A URL to log into your Domain Name Control Panel.
Then you’ll need the User ID and password to log in. Once you’ve logged in make sure to get familiar with that control panel.
Look for all the ownership information; verify it has been correctly entered, and that your name appears as the domain owner. (And not the individual who assisted you)
Webmaster: Is an individual or company that designs or develops your website. They may also provide maintenance to the site with your requested editing changes, etc.

Domain Name Resellers: Companies who have credentials to resell domain names on behalf of a specific register. (Example of Register: Tucows, Network Solutions, Wild West Domains)
Third Party Companies: Are Hosting companies like Yahoo who use third party companies to handle their domain registration sales.
*Note: Yahoo is only the reseller of the domain name there is another company involved that is a register to sell domain names.
This means if you want to transfer, update, change things concerning your domain name you may have 2 entities to communicate your change (s) through.
One final note on domain registering; use caution when registering a domain name out of the country, as they will be difficult to contact and are on different time zones.
Their prices may be cheaper than state side registers but you may regret the difficulty in the communication level and or trying to contacting them.
Make sure that whoever is assisting you can explain all the details of their services, ownerships, and simply who’s - who in your internet business decisions.
It will save you time, money and frustration in the long run.
