Affiliate marketing has become increasingly popular in the business-to-business industry. Why shouldn’t it be popular? The concept works well for both partners; both parties make money from the venture.

Like any other marketing stratagem, the process needs to be efficiently orchestrated. If you are hosting ads for another company’s goods and products, you want to make sure the enterprise will ultimately be profitable for you. Read the following article to add to your existing insight.

How much will they pay?
How much are you going to earn from each sale? Remember that you are now going to integrate their products and services into your marketing scheme. You do not want to spend a lot on marketing without seeing sales for both you and your partner rise. What percentage should you ask for? It is best to get an idea of how much you will devote towards marketing before discussing numbers with your partner. Asking for half of the profits for each sale is not outlandish, but the partner may want to assess how much revenue you will bring their business first. It may be wise to settle on a more modest number with the option to make it more profitable for you in the event you bring them a lot of business.

How popular is their site?
You want to get an idea of how well favored your partner is before doing business with them. You want to assess if it is worth your time and effort to engage in a partnership with them. A site which is hugely popular may not grant you the opportunity to make a lot of money offering their goods and services because they already attract solid numbers. On the other hand, research their goods and services to make sure they are reputable. You would not want to be affiliated with a partner who does not deliver quality goods and services.

How long until you are paid?
Discuss payment with your partner. Some partnerships will pay you daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. Choose a timeframe which will be good for you. Also, some partners will not pay until a certain number of leads have been acquired through your site. A payment period and method should be established before starting the relationship.

How well are they tracking visitors?
You want to get credit when it is warranted. Some browsers may not make a conversion right away, but if they originally came from your site first, you should still get the commission. Make sure your partner has a tracking method in place which will alert them of where customers have been before making a purchase. The longer they track customers’ actions, the more money you will make.

Another related topic is subsequent sales. Now that the customer knows about your partner because of your lead, they will go directly to their site to make a future purchase. Should you still get a percentage of those sales? Obviously, it would be more profitable for you if you did. This is a factor which should be discussed before the genesis of the partnership.
Will they help in marketing their site?
It is always better if the partner will aid in marketing their site. By offering articles, videos, podcasts, etc. they will help you market their site and will also augment the user experience of your site as well. Think about the look and wording of your partner’s ads. Would it be more enticing for the look of their ads to be integrated with that of your site or appear different? If they are a well-established brand, customers may more readily recognize their advertisement. Would it be better to word the ad copy yourself or leave what they offer?
