What do you think attracts the best job prospects? Could it be number of days off, pay, or an office with a view? All of these could most definitely persuade someone to become an employee. When I first started as a dew-eyed member of the workforce, I remember coming home a bit disappointed due to my initial salary. My father quickly inquired if my company offered a progressive health insurance plan. I told him that they did. He smiled and assured me that the presence of a good group health insurance plan alone could account for a good amount of money. So, he altered my original mindset by alerting me to the importance of being a part of a great plan.

Does your company offer the same to its employees? Read the following quick tips to help you make a better decision.

- Remember that you have a choice. There are many options available, so it is advised to receive quotes from several health insurance providers before narrowing your decision to a few.

- It is not necessary, but you may want to choose a provider that is in close proximity to your business. This way, you can meet with a representative in person, and get questions answered and concerns assuaged sooner.

- Make sure the representative you are discussing a possible plan with is a licensed agent. There have been incidents of ‘cheaper’ plans stemming from unlicensed agents.

- Ask them for references. Request information regarding payment history and the frame of time it takes for claims to be paid.

- Some group insurance providers may charge a high rate for commissions, fees, and other expenses pertaining to their assistance. If a high percentage of the premium is being devoted to the aforementioned, then look for another health insurance plan.

- You can purchase a general group health insurance plan and then have employees buy supplemental coverage if they desire. Beyond general plans, coverage becomes more particular for each employee depending on their needs.

- Have a group insurance representative communicate to your employees about changes in the plan, new offers, and supplemental information that may interest certain individuals.
