Tips for Designing your Business Card

You can make business connections anywhere. I was at the gym last week and a gentleman asked me how to adjust a particular machine. I helped him and we got to talking about our jobs. After a couple of minutes, I learned his business needed the same services I provide. He wanted me to provide him with a business card so he could call me during the week. Unfortunately, I do not have a business card. I quickly learned the importance of having one.
It is easy to find a vendor to purchase business cards. The provider helps you in designing the card, but it is good to think about what you want beforehand.
The print
Your business card is an extension of you and your service. You do not want the recipient to have to use a magnifying glass to read your business card. Be sure to use a font size prominently displaying your name and information. Be proud of yourself and your business.
Place of business
Potential customers become wary if a physical address is not placed on your business card. Place your business address on your card or use a post office box if you are working from home. Having your physical address on your business card enables other businesses to send you their information.
The finish
Many people go for the glossy finish because it appears to be more sleek and presentable. There is one problem with the glossy finish. It will be difficult to add additional information to the card. Business cards with a slick finish sometimes cannot be written on; or, it is easy for the information to smear.
Use the whole card
Most businesses only use the front of the business card. A business card is used for information and marketing as well. Has your business received special awards? Do you grant special promotions to first-time buyers? Find pertinent information to place on the back of your business card.
Photos
It is easier to remember events and information when more of the senses are engaged. Many people are reluctant to put their face on their business cards, but if you are a personable person, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage. Imagine being at a trade show and receiving over twenty business cards. It will be difficult to remember who was who. If you place your photo on your business card, it will be easier for people to recall the experience of meeting you.
Be unique
This is easier said than done. Exercise some ingenuity in designing your business card. Most cards look similar in size and shape. Distinguish yourself from the rest of the pack. Take some time to generate ideas. Could the card be shaped to look like your product? Could the card serve two functions like becoming a fridge magnet? Discuss the possibilities with your business card vendor.
Do-it-yourself
Rather than outsourcing, some people choose to adopt business services on their own. Creating business cards should not be one of them. Business cards can be created rather inexpensively and the appearance of your card speaks volumes to potential customers. Plenty of business card vendors exist; take your time in finding the one that is a good match for your business.
