Your Business Card: Don't Leave Home Without it

You can meet potential buyers and clients in the most unlikely of places. Are you prepared to provide them with information? Business cards ensure future communication will be made. Does your business have a business card? The card is an extension of your business. Does it effectively communicate for your business?
Consider the following information:
Always be ready for business
My friend relayed a story to me that made me think about my own situation with business cards. He was out with his wife at a restaurant waiting for a table and began speaking with another couple. After a few moments of conversation, he came to realize the gentleman wanted to be a potential client. My friend had no business cards on his person and was left writing down his contact info on a napkin (not the most professional first impression).
Having a business card ensures your name, title, business, and contact information is readily available at all times.
Remember: Always have your card on your person. You never know when opportunity will knock.
Tell something about yourself
Your business card serves as an extension of you and your business. The card can also work as an advertisement. Has your business won an award? Have you recently achieved a prestigious mark or number? What is your company philosophy? A business card presents the option of giving the recipient more information.
What to include
Be sure to use both sides of the business card. Decide what information is most pertinent to extend to the recipient. Consider:
- Company name
- Logo
- Philosophy
- Slogan
- Your name
- Title
- Phone number
- Web address
- Mailing address
Choose quality
Do not attempt to be economical in regards to your graphic design service and/or printer. Remember, your business card is an inanimate employee. You want to make a great impression, so it will cost a little bit more to make that initial impact.
Do not be impractical, when you dare to be different
Most business cards are 2x3.5. This works well because it fits in business card holders, wallets, handbags, etc.
You may want to be unconventional regarding the size and shape of your business card. For instance, if you are an advertising company, you may want to showcase your ingenuity, and employ a novel design. This is understandable, but do not run the risk of valuing form over function.
You want the recipient to be impressed, but you ideally want them to maintain your card and contact you later.
